Introducing Fresh Eyes
We’re not trying to get fresh with you… we just want to feast our eyes on your delicious stories.
As a part of our mission to publish and promote bad-ass speculative fiction, Brain Harvest is also here to help nurture your bad ass talents! Fresh Eyes is our sliding scale, high-quality critique service for speculative fiction writers. Depending on your needs and budget, you can rent up to four pairs of fresh eyes who will read your fiction and provide a one-page written critique in a timely fashion.
We know there are numerous excellent (and free) crit groups out there, like the revered Critters, and we always encourage writers to find good readers for their own work as part of their process. However, we also know that the quality of crits you receive (and the timeliness with which you receive them) can vary wildly.
Our eyes belong to a well-rounded and rotating menagerie of pro and neo-pro spec fic writers, all of whom have formidable intellects, grave respect for your time, and diplomas from the rigorous and competitive Clarion, Clarion West, Clarion South, or Odyssey workshops.
But wait, there’s more!
You’re not just improving your own work when you use Fresh Eyes, you’re giving back to your loving SFF community. ALL of the proceeds will go right back into Brain Harvest’s kitty so that we can continue to pay our contributors semi-pro rates. This is a labor of love. Simply breaking even would be a dream come true.
Anyway, for manuscripts of up to and including 7,000 words, simply add the number of eyes you’d like to rent below and pay using PayPal.
Then send us your manuscript, as an RTF attachment, in standard manuscript format, to fresheyes at brainharvestmag dot com.
In the body of your email, please indicate which email address you used to pay the rent. You will receive a confirmation upon submitting.
Your critique/s will be completed, usually within one week (please add extra time for extra eyes), and returned to you via email.
Styles can vary. Some of our eyes excel in deep line editing, others prefer to talk about a story as a whole. If you have a preference, do let us know when you submit.
